Senior Emergency Management

Emergency Preparedness

  • Conduct congregate site Fire drills
  • Administer the Bi-annual Emergency Food Box delivery to Rockwall County Seniors.

Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County take very seriously our commitment to clients in providing uninterrupted service. However two factors can affect our ability to deliver as promised. Our contract kitchen may for various reasons not be operating. Inclement weather including severe storms and winter ice build-up may cause the kitchen to be closed. A primary concern of MOWSS has to be the safety of our drivers and should traffic and road conditions be unsafe for the volunteers we don’t put them in harm’s way.

Those same conditions may affect the ability of older adults to secure food outside the home. Each home-deliver client has an Emergency Food Box delivered to them that contains a three to five day supply of stable shelf-life food. The box is renewed as necessary and supplies are distributed twice annually. Should their normal delivery be interrupted a phone notification is made to each person, instructing them to use their emergency supply.

State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) – Public

Do you or anyone you know need some assistance during times of an emergency event? The state of Texas presents the STEAR program. The STEAR program is a free registry that provides local emergency planners and emergency responders with additional information on the needs in their community. Texas communities use the registry information in different ways. Registering yourself in the STEAR registry DOES NOT guarantee that you will receive a specific service during an emergency. Available services will vary by community. For more information on how your community will use information in the STEAR registry, contact your local emergency management office.  To create your personal account to enroll yourself or others in STEAR please follow the link below.
